Muay Thai (Thai Boxing) is a style of kickboxing and the national sport of Thailand.
The basic offensive techniques in Muay Thai use hands, elbows, kicks and knees
to punch and kick the opponent. To hinder an opponent for both offensive and
defensive purposes, small amounts of stand-up grappling are used: the clinch.
Defensively, the shoulders, arms, and legs are used to thwart the attacker from
successfully executing his techniques. Almost all techniques in Muay Thai use the
entire body movement, rotating the hip with each kick, punch, and block.
At Sudbury MMA, our Muay Thai program is broken down into distinct classes to
provide the best training possible from the novice to the pro-fighter. Our Basic
Muay Thai program includes the Conditioning Class and the Technique Class.
The Conditioning Class focuses on training methods to develop a well conditioned
body. This might include: skipping, push-ups, crunches, and bag work as well as
other conditioning exercises. The Technique Class will focus primarily on punching
and kicking techniques, as well prepare the student for an Advanced Program.
Competing in Muay Thai is completely optional and no pressure is ever put on
students to do so.
